It’s Bay and Basin Community Resources’ (BBCR) birthday and the South Coast community is invited to celebrate the 30 years it has served the region. The day will not only be a celebration of the milestone but also an opportunity for residents to tour the Sanctuary Point site, meet the BBCR team, and explore potential employment and volunteering roles. Celebrations will start with Djiriba Waagura giving a welcome to country and smoking ceremony followed by a special performance by Vincentia High dance troupe. Everyone is welcome to join the celebrations from 10am to 2pm on Wednesday, December 15 at BBCR Activities Hub, 18 Sanctuary Point Road. “The original residents who started BBCR back in 1991 were united by a love for their community and gave a lot of energy and time to finding solutions so that we can all live happy and healthy lives here,” said Bay and Basin Community Resources CEO Heather Marciano. “Even though BBCR has grown so much in 30 years, we have never lost that initial enthusiasm and community focus.” It can be as simple as helping a young person to create a resume to as comprehensive as providing daily care for a senior so they can stay living in their own home, Heather said. “The diversity of the organisation reflects the diversity of the community we serve.” About Basin and Bay Community Resources Concerned by the lack of resources and services in the Jervis Bay and St Georges Basin communities especially for young people, a group of 80 residents went to Shoalhaven City Council looking for a solution. Today they have 85 staff and over 100 volunteers providing support in many ways from community building projects and community gardens to supporting over 1000 seniors and people with disability to live happy, healthy and meaningful lives. While a further 270 community members of all ages access services, programs and events every week through the BBCR community space in the Sanctuary Point Youth and Community Centre. From that meeting the Bay and Basin Community Resources Committee was formed with their first goal being to work with council to build the Sanctuary Point Youth and Community Centre.
