Rachel Silberstein / Times UnionCOLONIE — Nipa and Das Nobel, the founders of the fast-growing MTX Group technology firm, are making a $35 million donation to Siena College.
The contribution was touted at a Tuesday afternoon gathering at the Loudonville college that included the Nobels, college officials, representatives of the governor’s office, U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko and Albany County Executive Dan McCoy.
The MTX Group last drew local attention with its $18.5 million proposal to win the naming rights for Albany County’s downtown arena, currently known as the Times Union Center.
The county did not take the top bidder when it awarded the naming rights to the soon-to-be MVP Arena, choosing the health insurer’s $10 million, 5-year offer over a larger bid package proposed by a tech and consulting company founded by an Albany High School graduate.
MTX group, which provides machine learning technologies, partnered with municipalities across the nation during the pandemic to establish contact tracing systems.
