New production footage from The Last of Us seemingly reveals a major storyline recreation from the game, as well as two tragic companion characters.

Even more iconic faces from Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us video game are getting adapted into the upcoming HBO series.

A behind-the-scene video that surfaced online showed four characters running across an empty street and hiding behind a car. The video confirms the show will include not only Pedro Pascal’s Joel and Bella Ramsey’s Ellie, but also Henry and Sam, suggesting that The Last of Us is filming parts of its Pittsburgh quarantine zone chapter. The names of Henry and Sam’s actors have yet to be revealed.

The Last of Us‘ Pittsburgh storyline see Joel and Ellie navigate the ruins of the post-apocalyptic Pennsylvania town, evading its occupying militia group, known as the Hunters, in order to stay alive. Midway through the chapter, they meet Henry (voiced by Brandon Scott) and his younger brother Sam (Nadji Jeter), who are similarly hiding from the Hunters. Working together, the four escape the city limits and make their way through a formally lived-in sewer system, an abandoned suburb and defeat the Hunters’ armored Humvee before reaching Henry and Sam’s radio tower destination.

It’s unclear whether this aforementioned scene is a direct adaptation or extension of the events shown in Naughty Dog’s 2013 video game. Since production on The Last of Us‘ first season began, multiple set photo images and videos have teased a handful of iconic game locations, including the Boston quarantine zone and the Jackson community run by Joel’s brother Tommy. Other stories seem like they will expand upon Joel and Ellie’s relationship, but also those of the supporting cast, such as interactions between Bill (Nick Offerman) and Frank (Murray Bartlett) before their separation.

In addition to locations, The Last of Us series will adapt multiple supporting characters from the game like Bill in live-action. Most notably, Merle Dandridge will reprise her role from both The Last of Us and its sequel as Firefly leader Marlene, while Gabriel Luna has been cast as Tommy and Anna Torv (Fringe) will play Joel’s former partner Tess. Though it was expected to come out in 2022, HBO chief programmer Casey Bloys recently revealed that The Last of Us will be pushed back to a later date.

Created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, The Last of Us currently doesn’t have a release date.
