Top 9 Crypto Games and Metaverses by User Number in DecemberTop 9 Crypto Games and Metaverses by User Number in December

Blockchain games have been on the rise this year. Tons of great projects popped up across the industry, while pre-existing ones received additional support and enlarged player bases. The crypto gaming sphere is experiencing great change, and its evolution is plainly visible for all to see. As 2021 draws to a close, let’s check out what’s trending.

#9 Galaxy Block Monthly players – 134K

Galaxy Block is like ol’ reliable Tetris, but on the blockchain. What else is there to say about the game that single handedly represents the classics of world gaming? Galaxy Block’s version has made some changes to the gameplay, most likely, due to copyright issues.

Generally speaking, the game is a part of the ThunderCore ecosystem, which is a dApp that spans crypto games, NFT collections, DeFi, mining, and even analytics. The token of the ecosystem is called ThunderCore (TT).

#8 Arc8 by GAMEE Monthly players – 137K

Arc8 is a mobile gaming platform by GAMEE, a branch of Animoca Brands, which works on blockchain. The application is available on both popular mobile platforms; Android and iOS.

The selection of games available in Arc8 includes variations of marble, card, and cube games. One of the most interesting mini-games mixes Tetris with Sudoku and the officially licensed ‘Asteroids’ from the Atari 2600 system. The platform allows users to earn GMEE tokens for playing mini-games.

#7 MOBOX Monthly players – 149K

MOBOX is a crypto multiverse with cartoonish blocks as its main characters. Of course, all of the characters are NFTs which can be purchased on the local marketplace, as well as on OpenSea.

Although its main multiverse, MOland, is still to come, players can already try out their characters in battle arena “Block Brawler.” The game works via the Binance Smart Chain blockchain and is quite similar to Aavegotchi in terms of its mechanics and multiverse concept.

While waiting for the MOBOX multiverse, check out a similar project here:

Aavegotchi Review: Tamagotchi but with Ghosts [Halloween Special]

#6 Upland Monthly players – 179K

The concept of this game is “real world monopoly.” Upland includes most of the world’s cities, filled in with the property. After you obtain your piece of land, you can choose what you can build there, be it a club, café, or any other social hub, which can then generate revenue by other people using it.

By purchasing property in different areas, you can finish collections, for which you receive rewards. The developers have also promised more mechanics in the near future.

#5 Bomb Crypto Monthly players – 195K

Bomb Crypto is my personal favourite. This is the modern reincarnation of the fan favourite classic “Bomberman” except on the blockchain. The gameplay is standard for the genre, but you play with the real characters. Moreover, the developers have added a number of new mechanics, such as quests, adventures, arena battles, tournaments, hero upgrades, and even the ability to buy and decorate a house for your character.

Bomb Crypto has a cute pixel graphic style, which takes you back to the 8-bit and 16-bit era of gaming. The game’s multiverse is called “Bomberland” and its token is $BCOIN.

#4 CryptoMines Monthly users – 300K

CryptoMines is a cosmic RPG set in a Sci-Fi multiverse. The game provides players with the opportunity to explore the world, discovering new planets and mining crypto from their bowels. To get started, you need to buy or obtain spaceship NFTs, as well as pay workers for their in-game services.

The game runs on Unity, a cross-platform game engine, but supports the ERC-721 token standard, which is swappable across most wallets. The game’s currency is called $ETERNAL.

#3 Splinterlands Monthly players – 600K

Splinterlands is basically Hearthstone on the blockchain, a digital collectible card game (DCCG). The concept is similar to Pokémon cards except digital.

In Splinterlands, all cards are NFTs, so rather than how Bored Apes or CryptoPunks work, these collectibles are quite functional. Gameplay is divided into three parts: battling, trading cards, and participating in tournaments, as well as quests. Players also have the ability to rent cards to and from other players. Every card collectible has 4 levels of rarity, 7 stats, and belongs to one of 7 factions. There are currently around 50 abilities that characters can have.

#2 Monthly players – 865K

Axie Infinity became the hottest crypto game of 2021, So I don’t think it needs too much presentation anymore. Briefly, it’s a virtual pet RPG game, similar to Pokémon.

I would like to bring attention to the fact that the developers have not simply rested on their laurels, even with all the success they’ve experienced. We already have gaming mechanics such as breeding, land ownership, and battle arenas, and now the developers are even working on Axie Infinity Battle V2, which is set to be an advanced version of the base game, a level up!

In the meantime, check out this article for more information about Axie Infinity:

#1 Alien Worlds Monthly players – 1.5M

Alien Worlds has a similar concept to Splinterlands, but with a cosmic setting rather than a high fantasy world. Like the aforementioned, Alien Worlds is also a digital collectible card game. Each gaming card is an NFT, and there are several types of cards: land, tools, minions, weapons, avatars, and missions. The developers have also promised an additional card type for future updates: commemoratives. The game is based on Trilium (TLM), a cross-chain ERC-20 / BEP-20 / WAX fungible token.

Conclusion It’s not a surprise that the most played crypto games are pet and card collectibles. These genres are the easiest to develop quickly, meaning that they were some of the first to appear in the blockchain gaming industry. Naturally, these top ranking games quickly managed to establish an audience.

On the other hand, we are now seeing a lot of blockchain games with a focus on more interesting gameplay, while also employing entertaining P2E features. Let’s hope 2022 is going to become the year in which the mechanics of crypto games start to benefit from blockchain technology in a more diverse way.
