Three weeks after spring started, the National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for northern Utah’s mountains that will last through 3 a.m. Wednesday, with snow also expected in the valleys.

The forecast calls for heavy snow in both the Wasatch Mountains and the western Uintas (1-2 feet). The forecast also calls for 3-5 inches of snow along the Wasatch Front, with more possible on the benches and in the Logan area.

Even after the winter storm warning expires, there’s a slight chance of snow on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, according to the weather service.

In Salt Lake City, where normal daytime highs are 61-62 degrees this time of year, and normal lows are 41-42, the weather service expects highs of 33, 34, 45, and 48 on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, respectively. Lows will hover in the 20s until Friday, when a low of 35 degrees is forecast.

On Saturday, a high of 53 degrees with a low of 34 is expected, followed by a Sunday high of 48 and low of 36, according to the weather service.

In central and southern Utah, the mountains could see 5-10 inches of snow. Central and southern Utah valleys could see up to 2 inches.

Temperatures will tumble to a high of 55 degrees in St. George on Tuesday, about 20 degrees colder than Monday’s high.

There’s a chance of rain mixed with snow there into Tuesday morning, with little or no accumulation. Daytime highs should normalize by the weekend — with 60 degrees expected on Wednesday, 68 on Thursday, and the mid-70s expected on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
